英语阅读:Air flight reservation 航班预定
学英语是一种“主动思维”行为,而不是一种被动的机械模仿,简单的英译汉行为。
下面对话中有两个“角色”在互动,我们真正要“带着”思维思考活动去从这段对话里最大限度“学并学好”英语,当然也应该分别从这两个角色角度(假如我是机票预订员和假如我是预订机票的顾客)“我该说什么(英语)?”,而不要不分青红皂白,也不动脑子,只会机械模仿并记忆英语地“学”这段对话。
一、你打算怎么学下面的英语?
Reservations (airline)
Do you have any flights to Sydney next Tuesday afternoon?
Clerk:Northwind Airways, good morning. May I help you?
Mary:Yes, do you have any flights to Sydney next Tuesday afternoon?
Clerk:One moment, please... Yes. There´s a flight at 16:45 and one at 18:00.
Mary:That´s fine. Could you tell me how much a return flight costs? I´ll be staying three weeks.
Clerk:Economy, business class or first class ticket?
Mary:Economy, please.
Clerk:That would be €346.
Mary:OK. Could I make a reservation?
Clerk:Certainly. Which flight would you like?
Mary:The 16:45, please.
Clerk:Could I have your name, please?
Mary:My name is Mary Jones, that´s M-A-R-Y J-O-N-E-S.
Clerk:How would you like to pay, Ms. Jones?
Jones:Can I pay at the check-in desk when I pick up my ticket?
Clerk:Yes, but you will have to confirm this reservation at least two hours before departure time.
Jones:I see.
Clerk:Now you have been booked, Ms. Jones. The flight leaves at 16:45, and your arrival in Sydney will be at 9:25 a.m., local time. The flight number is NWA 476.
Jones:Thank you.
二、假如我是机票预订员(Clerk):我的“工作语言”有哪些?
除了“学”这些英语,你“还会说”英语吗?
1) Clerk:Northwind Airways, good morning. May I help you?
1.Okay.I got you.If someone is calling in to book a ticket,I know what to say un the beginning.
I'll identify myeslf(=say the name of my company,introduce myself.I'll say (This is)Northwind Airways.
见到Northwind Airways时,会用这个英语表达吗?这才是问题所在:学过的英语“不会用”,只会“英译汉”:把英语Northwind Airwsys翻译成中文“才能懂”。
2.Okay.After I greet a customer,I'll say How may I help you?
How may I help you什么意思?不是英译汉,是“说”英语:How may I help you means May I help you,or What can I do for you or May I help you.
你是否在“用”(已知)英语,是学习的关键。
2) Clerk:One moment, please... Yes. There´s a flight at 16:45 and one at 18:00.
1.Okay.I got you.One moment,please means Just a minute,or Hold on,please,or Give me a second please.
能想起并“说”这些英语吗?“读”英语,却“说”它的中文“才能懂”,不叫“英语阅读”。
3) Clerk:Economy, business class or first class ticket?
Okay.I got you.I'll ask the customer what class dhe'll book.Do you want an Economy class,or a bussiness class,or a first class.
Economy clasd is the cheapeat ticket.First clasd is the most expensive.Businesd is between economy and first class.
4) Clerk:That would be €346.
Okay.I got you.If I want to tell her how much it costs,I'll say That would be $ 300,400,and so on.I'll say That would be.That would be.
5) Clerk:Certainly. Which flight would you like?
1.Okay.I see.Of course,definitely.What flight would you like to book?
2.Say Would you like,not Do you want? It's not polite.
6)Clerk:Could I have your name, please?
Okay.I got you.If you book a ticket,you need to tell her your name.But do not say What's your name.Say May I/Could I have your namr,please?
7)Clerk:How would you like to pay, Ms. Jones?
Okay.I got you.I'll say How would you like to pay,or How are you going to pay if I want to know if she'll pay in cash,by card,or something else.
你可以“说”中文“您怎么结账付款”,但是,我更希望你能锻炼“说”上面的英语,因为你不是不会说中文,你是不会说英语。
8)Clerk:Yes, but you will have to confirm this reservation at least two hours before de
departutre.
Okay.I got you.When we book a ticket,we must confirm it=tell them that we still need the ticket so they will not resell it.
这样“学”英语时“用”英语表面比较繁琐,远不如“直接告诉我中文,然后我回去自己背”来得直接干脆。但是,这才是真正打下牢固英语基础的训练。
